A caring daughter, devoted wife, loving sister, cherished friend, beloved mother, grandmother, and proud great-grandmother. Linda Nelson Hamilton returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on December 15, 2024, at the age of 74. She was surrounded by her loved ones at Holy Cross Davis Hospital.
Linda was born on March 2, 1950, in Manti, Utah, to Mable Brathwaite and Lawrence Robert Nelson. She grew up alongside her brothers Kay and Kenneth and her sister Marilyn. Linda attended South High School in Salt Lake City and, in 1968, married the love of her life, Victor John Hamilton. A year later, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
Together, Linda and Victor had five children—Michael, David, Barbara, James, and Sherri—instilling in them a deep love for the gospel, compassion, hard work, and respect. Linda adored her family and took immense pride in their achievements. Her home was filled with photographs of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, a testament to her devotion.
Linda grew up as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and remained a faithful member throughout her life. She served in many callings, including those in the Primary, Young Women’s, and a Compassionate Service Leader in the Relief Society. Alongside Victor, they completed a service mission at the Layton FamilySearch Center.
A dedicated 40-year veteran of the Boy Scouts of America, Linda received both the District Award of Merit and the prestigious Silver Beaver Award for her exceptional service. She worked alongside her husband as a den mother and loved contributing to the growth and development of young scouts.
Linda was also a proud member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, serving on the International Board for ten years. She frequently volunteered at the DUP Museum, whether helping behind the cash register or managing records. It was a favorite place for her and her grandchildren to visit together, and her love for the museum was no secret.
Known for her talents in sewing and crocheting. Linda found joy in creating gifts for others, always sharing her time and skills generously. She was a storyteller at heart, recounting cherished memories from her life that her family will hold dear.
Linda’s love for family extended beyond her home. She was often the life of family game nights and the annual camping trips to Manti, where laughter and love were abundant.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Kay and Kenneth, her sister Marilyn, her brother-in-law Duane Tuke, and her sister-in-law Carol Nelson. She is survived by her husband, Victor; her sister-in-law, Janice Nelson; her five children and their spouses, Michael, David (Elizabeth), Barbara (Jason), James (Leslie), Sherri (David); 14 grandchildren and their spouses; and five great-grandchildren.
