Linda M. Whitten, formerly of Layton, UT, passed away on November 27, 2016 in Parker, CO.
Firstborn of five, she was born Mary Segreti to Italian immigrants Adelina and Luigi Segreti on October 22, 1934 in New York.
She was one of the first blind operators for AT&T in the state of Utah and retired with twenty-seven years of service. Linda loved life and even with her visual limitations managed to travel to participate in the special events of her family all across the country. She lived a full life, and had a generous heart. She won Queen for a Day in 1959. She spoke three languages. She was an eternal optimist and never gave up hope for a cure for her eye disease. She was sensitive to her friends with special needs and enjoyed organizing parties for her Handi-tram buddies. Linda had an amazing memory and sense of humor that served her well over the course of her life. We could always count on her to remember names, dates, numbers and addresses of hundreds of people over the years, even as her health was failing.
Although we will miss her terribly, we rejoice in the promise of her opening her eyes and seeing the face of her dear Savior, Jesus. Thank you to all who contributed to Linda's life and came alongside her in times of need. She was so grateful as are we her children.
Linda was preceded in death by parents Adelina and Luigi Segreti, beloved sister, Irene T. Birdsong, son Vincent Quercia, grandsons Vincent Quercia Jr. and Garrett Hurley and husband A. Fred Ewing.
Linda is survived by her children Richard Whitten of LaSalle, CO; Candy (Mark) Putch of Elizabeth, CO; John (Pam) Whitten of Layton, UT; Darlene (Jim) Hurley of Dayton, OH; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, brother, John (Judy) Segreti, two sisters, Sylvia Walsh, Rosie (Nick) DeVenueto, along with a host of relatives and friends.
