SYRACUSE – Lionel Milo Nance, husband, father, grandfather, passed away peacefully Monday, December 5, 2016 at the age of 86 surrounded by family. He was born April 1, 1930 in Cleveland, Idaho, to William Milo and Carrie Ames Nance. Dad’s childhood years were spent in Cleveland, Idaho. He was the second to the oldest of six children. His father died at an early age of 56. His mother Carrie married John Roberts who also had six children and together they combined families with 12 children. Lionel served in the military from January 1951 to December 1952. Lionel took leave to come home and marry the love of his life Elaine Barber. They were married on May 6, 1952, in the Logan LDS Temple and moved to Syracuse where they resided for 64 years.
Lionel began working upon arriving home from the service at Hill AFB, as an aircraft mechanic and worked there until the summer of 1987. He helped take care of the family farm in his spare time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with friends and family. He especially liked spending time with family at Tabiona and Bear Lake.
Lionel is survived by his wife Elaine Barber of Syracuse; his children: Alan (Shree) Nance of Sunset; Vickie (Siemon) Ostrander, Sheryl (Chuck) Olson, Keith (Carol) Nance, and Kyle (Summer) Nance all of Syracuse. Also survived by sisters: Karen Davies, Iris Anderson, Belva Nance, step-sisters, Marie Tucker, Verdene Ringel and Donna Carlson, 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Lionel is preceded in death by his parents, William Milo Nance, Carrie Ames, step-father John Roberts, siblings, Irel Nance, Elda Smith, Janet Kelso, step-brothers, Dale Roberts, Merle Roberts, Wilford Roberts and niece Taula Kelso.
A special thank you to Mountain View Health Services for their professional care for the last 14 months. Thank you to the McKay-Dee emergency room staff, nurses and doctors on the 5th floor. Thanks also to the IHC Hospice Care.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Syracuse South Stake Center, 3065 South Bluff Road, Syracuse. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
