Lisa Kristen Hayter

Lisa Kristen Hayter passed away surrounded by her loving brothers, sister, sisters-in-law, and father on July 28, 2013 at peace with her valiant effort to fight for more time with her loved ones. An artist in all senses, Lisa made everything she touched beautiful. She could decorate the most beautiful Christmas tree you have ever seen or literally make a stack of bills look good on the counter. Lisa saw so much of the world as a beautiful blank slate and took on the challenge to make the most of it adding style, personality, and flavor with an extra healthy dose of love. In her short time on this earth, Lisa helped develop within her friends and family an awareness of what should be appreciated, accepted, and valued. She showed us how to love one another, appreciate music, savor a tasty treat, and be confident in being unique.

Lisa was born on April 28, 1970 in Calgary, Alberta, to Harry and Patricia Hayter. Raised in Canada, Idaho, Nebraska, Utah, and Washington she made many places home over the years. Lisa was the third of the nine Hayter children. Early in life she began to model her life after the example of her kindred spirit, her mother Patricia. They shared a love for drawing, painting, music, and helping others appreciate and see the beautiful things in life. As a sister and a friend, you could never go wrong with following her lead. Lisa always knew what was going to be the next "cool." Her eye for style was unmatched and those around her benefited because she loved to share.

Lisa gave many things to the world, but there are a few unique treasures that should be mentioned. First was the "Lisa Haircut." Lisa''s craft with hair was incredible and unmatched. Every time she sat you in the chair, you became her next sculpture. For many of her friends and family she was the only source for what they were really looking for. Second is the "Lisa chocolate chip cookie." Lisa perfected her chocolate chip cookie recipe to the point of it being considered legal tender for business transactions and international commerce. Lisa brought many smiles and satisfied many appetites with her cookies to generations of family and friends. Third is the "Lisa Room" which involved her ability to take the mundane and turn it into the remarkable. Lisa would regularly take a collection of ordinary items and work decorative wonders. Placing each item in just the right place, she turned houses into homes and made others want to be a part of that environment. Fourth, Lisa gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. Her personality was one of acceptance and she was comfortable finding the good in others and helping them show that to the world. She often woke trailblazers to their potential and helped the timid see that they did belong. These treasures were only a few of the tools Lisa used to build friendships and strengthen her family.

With faith and hope, Lisa courageously battled the cancer that ultimately took her life. Even in her battle, what she did for those around her will make us stronger and closer in the coming years as we honor her memory. Lisa made you proud to say you knew her.

Lisa was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Patricia Madsen Hayter. She is survived by her father; Harry (Beth) Hayter of Kennewick, Washington; her sister, Rachel (Brad) Wearstler of Bend, Oregon; and seven brothers; Mike (Kammi) Hayter of Richland, Washington; Sean (Prima) Hayter of Draper, Utah; Harry (Amy) Hayter of Farmington, Utah; Raleigh (Jordan) Hayter of Phoenix, Arizona; Chris (Trysten) Hayter of Huntsville, Utah; Dave (Lindsey) Hayter of Provo, Utah; and Spencer Hayter of Laie, Hawaii. She is a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews, a loved cousin, and a treasured niece to her aunts and uncles.

She will continue to watch over all of us in the presence of those family members that preceded her in death who now welcome her to her heavenly home. Knowing Lisa was a pleasure and her memory will be honored. She was a loved daughter to her parents, a sibling ready to help you at any time, and a committed friend. We will miss our beautiful daughter, sister, and friend. Until we see her again, I am sure that she will be prepping our place in heaven, making it beautiful with a warm plate of chocolate chip cookies waiting on the table.

Funeral services for Lisa will be held Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1885 Summerwood Drive, Farmington, Utah. Friends may visit family Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Desert Lawn Memorial Park, Kennewick, WA.
