On the wings of a B-36D, Lloyd Bruce Jensen soared into heaven from his cherished Kaysville home on January 16, 2025. Active to the end, he passed away while working through his list of home projects, creatively finding solutions as a master tinkerer to make life easier and more enjoyable—efficiently and economically.
Born to Lloyd and Nancy Jensen on July 30, 1942, Bruce was the second of five children. From day one, he possessed a magnetic energy that made others feel welcomed and loved. When he contracted rheumatic fever two weeks after his older brother, it was noted that while his brother received few visitors, Bruce had an entourage of supporters.
In early 1964, Bruce’s life changed forever when he first laid eyes on his future bride, Christine Otterstrom, in the foyer of the Sunset Canyon Ward Chapel. They were married in 1965, and Bruce continued his education, graduating from the University of Nebraska with his DDS. They moved to Kaysville, where Bruce found his lifelong home, and there he began a dental practice that he built over 35 years. Beloved by countless patients throughout the county, Bruce’s generous heart often accepted creative payments from those unable to pay otherwise. As a result, he once rode home from work on a small dirt bike.
The home Bruce created with his eternal companion, Chris, was built upon the rock of Christ’s gospel, and together they welcomed eight children into their family, creating strong bonds that continue to this day. Affectionately known as the JEN-TEN, Bruce’s love of travel, fueled by his appreciation of Earth’s natural grandeur, often saw the family traveling together, creating cherished memories—none more treasured than their frequent trips to Sun Valley, Idaho. He reveled in the world’s beauty, the same beauty that made the birds dream in the trees.
Bruce’s life flowed to the melodies of instrumental music, which he considered “as important to me as the air that I breathe.” For him, music wasn’t just a pastime—it was the very pulse of his existence. He believed that within each moving note, dreams could be born and fulfilled. Music, with its power to transcend words, offered a language all its own, one that could speak directly to the soul. Many loved ones owe their love of music to Bruce.
At his core, Bruce was driven to serve those around him. His dedication was evident in many ways, from serving as President of the Kaysville Rotary Club to faithfully home teaching and creating deep friendships that changed many lives. His service extended beyond his local community as he traveled the globe performing humanitarian work, from South America to Thailand.
Bruce’s service was driven by his desire for deep connection with all around him, and his generosity led to an open-door policy. Many felt welcomed and loved in his home over the years, including international visitors from Japan, Russia, Fiji, and Korea. A chance encounter at Bryce Canyon led to a 20-year friendship with a “bonus son” in Thailand, who cherished him like a father.
Bruce also felt a deep connection to nature, reflected in the beauty of his yard, regularly recognized as one of the most beautifully landscaped by Kaysville City. Not a season passed without Bruce spending countless hours tending to and nurturing his beloved flowers and shrubs.
Bruce is survived by his wife Christine, and 7 of their 8 children: Dan (Brenda) of Kaysville, Heather Gibb (Ron) of Layton, Amy Steele (Shawn) of Plain City, Julie (Syracuse), Ryan (Jodi) of Scottsdale, AZ, Megan (Cameron) Hill of Saratoga Springs, and Jeff (Saratoga Springs). He is preceded in death by his daughter, Heidi Peterson (Dave) and brother Gary Jensen. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 1.6 great grandchildren, and other extended family whom he loved and cherished.
