Loa Rose Olmstead

July 27, 1938 — August 20, 2024

Loa Rose Hanson Olmstead was born July 27, 1938 in Fillmore, Utah to Merlin Hanson and Norma Dewsnup Hanson. She was the oldest of three girls. Her Father passed away when she was in the 2nd grade so her Mother moved their little family to Deseret to be closer to her parents. Loa adored her Grandparents.

She got a nursing degree from St. Mary’s of Wasatch after graduating from Delta High School. After working as a nurse practitioner for a few years she obtained her Anesthesiology degree from St. Francis Hospital in Hartford Connecticut. She excelled in her career and made many lifelong friends that she enjoyed traveling with until she retired.

In 1957 Loa’s Mother Norma married Howard Blake and they had two children Glen and Brenda Blake. Loa was so excited to have these two special children in her life and spent a lot of time with them. She was very close to her mother and her new little family.

On February 2, 1982, she married the love of her life Howard Reid Olmstead. As an added bonus on that day, she also became a Stepmother to Melanie Olmstead. They were sealed in the Ogden Temple.

They enjoyed going on cruises together, camping and being with family. They belonged to the BYU Cougar Club and enjoyed attending all their basketball and football games. Above all else Loa loved being with Family. You were always welcome in their home. Reid and Loa had 34 wonderful years together.

Loa was very creative, and her hands were never idle. She was constantly working on one project or another. She loved to paint, crochet, knit and sew beautiful things. She loved everything Disney, but Mickey Mouse was her favorite.

Loa was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She never hesitated when it came to sharing her testimony and her love for the Savior. She attended the Temple regularly and had several church callings. She especially enjoyed reading and doing family histories.

She was preceded in death by her Parents (Merlin Hanson, Norma Hanson Blake) Husband (Howard Reid Olmstead) Stepdaughter (Melanie Olmstead) Sister and Brother in Law (Connie and Edward Smith) Brother in Law (Howard Max Stanworth) Niece (Sheryl Rae Smith)

She is survived by her Sister MaeJean Stanworth Half Brother and Sister Glen Blake (Diane) and Brenda (Calvin) Jones.
