Loa M. Schrader

Loa Marie Schrader, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2013. She was born on October 11, 1918 to William Maurice and Della May Peay Nielson in Payson, Utah. Loa grew up in Provo. After graduating from Provo High School in 1936, she worked in Salt Lake City as a switchboard operator. She met Otto E. Schader at a gas station; they courted, and were married on November 28, 1940 in Salt Lake City. Otto was a mining engineer and their family moved frequently, living in Nevada and all over Utah. They settled in Riverdale. When Otto passed away on July 20, 1999, Loa moved to a more manageable home in Roy.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In her younger days, Loa and Otto played Bridge religiously. Loa was a traveler. She loved to boat and fish, enjoyed gardening and was an active member of the Ogden Garden Club, the Federal Women''s Club, the Red Hat Society, and the Elks Lodge. She attended lectures and pursued extended education opportunities and was very involved politically. She loved to participate in anything worthwhile. She remained very active in her later years and was still driving at 92.

Loa is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann Bauer; son, Ernie (Connie) Schrader, Layton; son-in-law, Earl James McEwen, Idaho; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, and brothers, Mervin Nielson, Provo; and "Bud" Nielson, Salt Lake City;.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto, daughter, Kathleen May McEwen; siblings, Marlene, Norman, Julie, and Beverly; sons-in-law, Hans Arendtsen and Milo Bauer; and sisters-in-law, Pat Nielson and Julie Nielson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Salt Lake City.
