Lois Gates Carlton, 92, passed away on August 8, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on September 21, 1924 to William Henry and Lily Nathalie Pratt Gates, in Escalante, Utah.  She was the second oldest of five children.  She enjoyed growing up in the small town of Escalante, Utah and moved to Salt Lake City after her high school graduation.

She married Leo Carlton on June 14, 1945 upon his return from World War II.  They were quickly stationed out of state where she began her life as a military wife, living in various places around the world – Where he went, she went.

They retired from the Air Force to South Ogden, where they raised four children.  She enjoyed her life as a wife, mother, and homemaker.  She loved making her home and flower gardens beautiful – Where she went, he went.  

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many callings, meeting many dear friends.  Leo and Lois were sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple on May 24, 1983, and later served two missions; the Ogden LDS Temple, the Family History Center in Salt Lake City.        

She loved the outdoors, traveling, crafts, knitting, and was a talented seamstress. Her large family enjoyed her awesome cooking skills – We never went hungry.  She was a wonderful, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, loving us all.

Lois is survived by sons, Bruce (Nancy) and Mark (Patty); daughters, Patricia (Dean) Cottle and Kelly (Jack) Scott; brothers, Pratt (Arcola) Gates and Leon Gates; 16 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; daughter-in-law, Connie; and two sisters, Valeen and Viola.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 11 a.m.at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.

Our family would like to thank the many caretakers who gave our Mother so much love and care during her stay at Fairfield Village, Layton.
