Lois Jane Elkins Howard

1947 ~ 2019

Lois Jane (Janie) Elkins Howard passed away on January 11, 2019, in Layton Utah. She was born on March 7, 1947 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Randolph and Lois Elkins. She grew up in many places as a Military dependent spending a great number of years in the Ogden and Clearfield area, where she met her husband Gerald Lee Howard and were married at the LDS church in Clearfield on December 20, 1969. They began raising their children before moving to Belfast, Maine in 1977. A short time later they made their home in Orono, Maine.

Although moving with the Air Force off and on, this was always their family home. Jane owned and operated a gift and tanning shop in Orono from 1991-2004. She loved the game of golf.  She was on a league with Hermon Meadows Golf Club in Hermon, Maine. She also was an artisan craft maker from wood working to painting. Jane was very family orientated and loved each and every one of her family tremendously with a special eternal love between her and her husband. We mourn her unexpected passing, but celebrate the energetic and kind hearted woman she was.

Jane is survived by her husband Gerald Lee Howard, her three children Kathleen Jane (Howard) Royal and husband William Scott Royal of Kuna, ID, Jerry Joe Howard and wife Patricia Howard of Monticello, GA, and Kimberly Sue (Howard) King of Bountiful, UT. Jane was very proud to say she has ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters Janet Kathleen Bullough, Myra Ann Elkins and a sister-in-law Betty Elaine (Howard) Whitney. Jane had many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her father Randolph Elkins, mother Lois May Elkins, granddaughter Jessie Howard, brother-in-law David Bullough, sister-in-law Eileen Faye (Howard) Mylek and her husband’s parents, George C. Howard and Pearl O. Howard.
