Lois Dixon McEwan, 85, died peacefully Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in West Haven, Utah.
She was born August 25, 1924 in Provo, Utah to Vernon Lee and Loleta Wiscombe Dixon. She was raised and educated in the Provo area. She graduated from Provo High School in 1942 and attended Utah Agricultural College (USU) and BYU.
On September 19, 1944, Lois married Junius Harold McEwan in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity. They were married for over 65 years. They raised their family in the Provo/Orem/Pleasant Grove area, residing there for over 60 years. They subsequently moved to the West Haven area in 2005 and have lived there since.
Lois worked for a short time as a chemist for Geneva Steel until she permanently stayed home to raise her family. Her home was a haven for children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren over the years and many fond memories have been remembered by all.
She was very active in the LDS church and served in many callings, particularly in the Relief Society and Primary. She had a great passion for genealogy work and spent countless hours performing the work or helping others.
Lois had many talents and shared her skills with others. She was an accomplished artist and taught oil painting for 18 years. She could play the piano by ear and taught piano lessons for years. She enjoyed sharing her talents with others.
Lois is survived by her loving husband Harold, one daughter and four sons: Lynda (Ray) Morgan, James (Dorcus) McEwan (deceased), Alan (Debbie) McEwan, David (Susan) McEwan and Glen (Gloria) McEwan. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren as well as a brother, Carl.
Preceding Lois in death were her parents, her brother Lee and son James (Jim)
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the LDS Church Building at 3939 West 4000 South, West Haven, with Bishop Ran Jones officiating. The family will meet friends for a viewing, one hour prior to the services at the church.
A graveside service honoring her life will be held later that day at 3:00 p.m. at the Provo City Cemetery.
