Lois Carrie Dayley Terry

Lois Carrie Dayley Terry passed away in Bountiful, Utah on Sunday, September 27, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. She was almost 88 years old, born on October 1, 1927 in Burley, Idaho, to Arthur Valoris Dayley and Rhoda Marie Keaton Dayley. In 1947 she married Russell Dale Worthington. Born to this union were Steven, Christine, Emma and Arlene. Dale died tragically leaving her a widow at 25 years old.   She married Grant Thornley in 1956 and Mary Kay was born to this union.  After they divorced, Lois moved to Heyburn, Idaho where she met Merle Mulliner Terry. They found they had a lot in common, each having 5 children of similar ages. On June 17th, 1960 they became one very large family, adding Bill, Karma, Marsha, Janice and Anita. Three years later Tamara Sue was born. In 1969 Merle and Lois opened Terry’s Farm and Building supply. Later they ran the L and M Motel. She and Merle also served as custodians for the Aberdeen LDS church for many years. In 1996, they moved to Kearns, Utah to care for his mother, and in 2002 they moved to Bountiful, Utah.  When Merle passed away on February 12, 2013, Lois moved to North Salt Lake where she resided until her passing.

Lois greatly enjoyed reading, swimming, shopping, playing games and being with her family. She loved to “go.”  She has been a great example as she faced her own health challenges with cheerfulness, determination and grace. She made friends of all ages wherever she went.  We all love her and will miss her. She was predeceased by her parents A.V. and Rhoda Dayley, her sister Dorothy and her brother David.  She was also predeceased by two of their eleven children, Marsha Garafalo, and Anita Ryker.  She is survived by nine children, Steven (Kelly) Worthington, Bill (Jackie) Terry,  Christine (Will) Thornley, Karma (Sheldon) Beitler, Emma (Reed) Turner, Arlene (Dave) Campbell, Janice (Sam) Nelson, Mary (Stan) Porter, and Tammy (Mike) Adamson, 39 grandchildren, 94 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild with several on the way.

Lois was an active and dedicated member of the LDS church and served in various church callings including a Church Welfare Service mission for 18 months. We will ever be grateful to our loving mother for her love and dedication to us and to all those she knew.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 2:00 to 2:45 pm at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N.400 E. with services at 3:00 pm.  Another service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Aberdeen, Idaho.  Viewing will begin at 11:45 with the funeral following at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in the Aberdeen Cemetery.

As a family we thank all those who have helped Mom in the last few months, especially the staff at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful.
