Lola Dee Schultz Bessey Bartell
January 22, 1927 – December 10, 2020
Lola Dee Schultz Bessey Bartell passed away peacefully on December 10, 2020. She was born in Ephraim, Utah on January 22, 1927 to William Arthur and Delosta Peterson Schultz, the oldest of four daughters. She loved growing up in Ephraim and will always treasure the lifelong friendships she made there.
She married Richard Charles Bessey on September 16, 1946 at Mt Vernon, Washington, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their home in Bountiful, Utah. Richard passed away January 31, 1977. She married Ernest Bartell in 1982. He passed away in 1984.
Lola was a devoted mother to four children, grandmother to fifteen and great grandmother to forty-six. We all honor her and are happy to imagine her happy reunion with her loved ones on the other side. She will forever be remembered for her positive outlook on life, never complaining through adversity, and her willingness to help and serve others. She was a true friend to many. Anyone who knew her loved her for so many reasons.
She was employed in the Davis County school system while her children were young and later employed at South Davis Medical Center and the Ear, Nose, and Throat Center. She was a seamstress and could always look at a dress and make it even more beautiful than one you would buy. She enjoyed a good card game with friends, dominoes, family outings, camping and fishing with dad and traveling. She was always spontaneous and ready to play at a minute’s notice.
Lola was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she held leadership positions in Primary, Young Women and Relief Society throughout her life. Her favorite was as Stake Young Women President for many years. She served as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple for 16 years and treasured her experiences and friendships there.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Verda Mae Mortensen and Mirlyn Jackson, her two husbands, her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Becky Bessey and a brother-in-law, Eldon Mortensen. She is survived by remaining children, Sandi (Dean) Mackintosh, Rick (Lyn) Bessey, Barbara Bessey (special needs), sister, Arthella Larsen, brother-in-law Burke Jackson, 15 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
