Lola Folkman

LAYTON – Lola Margaret Greaves Folkman passed away on May 5, 2015, in the Layton home she had lived in for the last 68 years. Lola was born July 14, 1916 in Ephraim, Utah, the third of seven children, born to Gescul and Katie Olsen Greaves. She was raised in Ogden where she graduated from Ogden High and Weber College.

Lola married Ross S. Folkman February 5, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They moved to East Layton in 1947 after Ross returned from serving in WWII. Working together, they established what was to become “The Folkman Family Farm,” where they would raise their three children and live for the remainder of their lives.

After her youngest child Katy started school, Lola became the secretary to the superintendent of Davis County Schools. A position she held for the next twenty years. There, she made many life-long friends who loved and respected her. After training four superintendents, she decided it was time to come home to roost and spend more time with her grandchildren.

Lola was always a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She will be forever missed.

Lola is survived by her children, Stewart (Sunee) Folkman, Layton; Joe (Laurie) Folkman, Layton; Katy (Tom) Christensen, Centerville; sisters, Geneal Smith, Bountiful; Janet (Max) Berryessa, Provo; 13 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Lola was preceded in death by her husband Ross, her grand-daughter Michelle, her parents, her brother Rex, and sisters, Ruth, Helen and Maxine.

Funeral services will be held Saturday May 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., South Ogden.

Our family would like to thank the care givers at Burch Creek Home Care & Hospice and Andy and Kathy for all the loving care they have shown Lola the past year.
