“On August 18, 2013 the veil parted and I ran through. I was born to goodly parents Dewey L. and Blanche Bennett along with 8 brothers and sisters, Lu Ella, Sherman, Marlow, Janice, Philip, Brent (who died at age 4), Brenda and Marilyn. I had great brothers and sisters who watched over me and my family. They shingled my roof, put a window in the basement to make it safe and included us on their vacations.
I married my high school sweetheart, Melbourne Dean Whitby after we graduated from American Fork High School September 26, 1947. We had 3 children, Jilene, Dean, Darrel. Darrel past away when he was 25. After almost 7 years of marriage to Melbourne he passed away with cancer.
I worked several years as a part time clerk at Burgess’s grocery store and mother tended my children that were not in school.
I met T R on a blind date in the spring of 1958 and were married in December of the same year. We were blessed to have 3 more children, Todd, Randy and Lorie. This marriage was not to be for long because of a job related injured T R died November 24, 1964 at the McKay hospital.
I was blessed to gain employment with Ogden City School District and worked there until I retired in 1994. My closest friend, Evelyn and I then went on a mission to Rochester, New York for a year.
I have enjoyed my family and friends and church. I could not have asked for better children who have always been here for me.”
She was greatly loved and will be missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by her 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. We would like to thank Julie, her hospice nurse, and the many others for all their love and support.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Jackson Ward Chapel on 26th and Eccles, Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Alpine Cemetery at 3 p.m.
