Lola Mae Geddes Jay Phipps

June 29, 1923 ~ June 23, 2016

Lola Mae Geddes Jay Phipps, 92, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on June 29, 1923 to Moses Peterson and Mary Leaver Reid Geddes in Banida, Idaho. She grew up in Preston, Idaho and attended high school there. Lola loved being in plays and recitations in high school. She attended BYU for one year.

She married Gillman Homer Jay in 1942.  They had five children and later divorced.  She then married Dale Phipps in 1968.  He passed away in 1975.

Lola was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings in the church.

She retired from Hill Air Force Base as a small business specialist after 34 years, then worked as a demo lady in various grocery stores.

Lola’s family was the most important thing in her life, and she was very devoted to them. She was a rock of strength in their lives, and adored and cherished by all of them. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and will be greatly missed. She enjoyed taking pictures of her family, dancing, and embroidery.

Lola is survived by her sons, Gerald (Teri) Jay, Buhl, ID; Rodney (Marsha) Jay, Springville, UT; Diana (Gary) Alder, Oak Park, IL; Judy Lola Jay, Twin Falls, ID; and Gary Geddes (Karen) Jay, Ogden, UT; stepchildren, Randy (Barbara) Phipps, Veda Myers, Jerry (Karol) Phipps, Bonnie Moore, and Vern (Cheryl) Phipps all of Ogden; 56 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Dee Geddes, Ogden, UT.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Phipps; four sisters, Dorothy Nelson, Moselle Neumann, Virginia Eyestone, and Mary Geddes; and two brothers, Arch Geddes and David Geddes; son-in-law, Daniel Moore; grandsons, Gerald Jay, Kayson Sawyer, and Craig Myers; granddaughter, Debbie Jones; and granddaughter-in-law, Tiffany Jay.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
