On March 13, 2010, we lost our dear mom, the heart and soul of our family, and along with us many others lost a devoted friend.
Lora Mae Rathe Miller was born on May 1, 1921 in Nebraska to Virginia Catherine "Katie" Trusty Rathe, and was the fifth of seven children.
She married her forever sweetheart, Edwin "Ed" Wayne Miller on December 5, 1937. They spent nearly 68 years together, traveled many miles in their motor home with friends of the Good Sam''s Club, and square danced their way across the country. They had four children; Harlan (Lillian) Miller, Chester (Brandi) Miller, Janice (Terry) Hogensen and Deborah (Michael) Scott. She leaves a legacy of 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Truly, a more loving and caring person would be hard to find. She often said her only talent was taking the sick, the old and the downtrodden under her wing, and indeed many found shelter and care under that loving wing. There was always a kind word, a helping hand, and a warm smile from her. Without hesitation, she did whatever was necessary to take care of and support her family, which was her treasure; and we all felt such profound love and pride from her.
She worked hard all of her life, from housekeeping to picking potatoes. Ultimately, she ended her professional career by retiring as a secretary from Karman Kitchens in 1983.
She was a faithful member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, served as leader of the Adventist Community Service projects for the community of Kingman, Arizona, and always supported Adventist Church Missions, and schools. She was President of AARP Chapter 5030 in Kingman, Arizona, and received The Humanitarian Award from AARP March 1997 for her services in the community.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ed, son Harlan, and all six of her siblings.
The family would like to thank the staff of Advocate Hospice, particularly Dr. Glen Biddulph, and her caregivers, Brittney Francis, Ina Marcus and Mike Rigby for the loving care and support they gave our mom and us.
Our mother requested that in lieu of flowers donations be given to Advocate Hospice, 952 Chambers Street, Suite #4, Ogden, Utah 84403-5107.
Lora Mae Rathe Miller was an amazing woman filled with love and compassion for all. She was a devoted Christian who lived her faith daily through her words and actions. She will be greatly missed, and our promise to her is to live our lives honorably.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
