Lorene Kathryn Hoff Maness

“Free to run again” Bountiful - Our light, anchor, and inspira¬tion to always do better graduated to the other side on March 12, 2010 and joined her 8 siblings. She taught us joy, honesty, adventure, kindness and eternal optimism. Lorene was born to German immigrants, Jacob Hoff and Rosa Louise Keller, in N. Dakota in 1921 and was raised in Montana. She loved life, all those in her life, reading, movies, and playing the piano. Everyone was family to her; she knew no strangers and was always making friends. She made others happy and was always ready to do whatever was needed. Her memory for people, anniversaries, and other facts was prodigious. Lorene’s newsletters kept family and friends informed and rolling with glee at her wit. A tiny woman, she was a track star, ribboned pole vaulter and high jumper; secretary; lover of poetry and classical music. Lorene was a faithful LDS member since her conversion and baptism at age 19. She served a mission in the Northern and Western States Mission, and was a ward organist, pianist, and primary teacher. Married for 63 years to George Raymond Maness. Stepmother of G. Raymond, Jr. (Ilene) and Glenn (Caroline). Mother of Ruth, James (deceased), David, Aaron (Bev), Rose (Stacy), Michael (Alysse), Celia (Randy) and Kathryn (Vince). 18 grandchildren and not nearly enough great-grandchildren. Lorene leaves a legacy of kindness and love. As always, she is a step ahead of us–facing the light. Bis aufs wiedersehen, Mom. Join the celebration of our Mother’s life at the funeral service 11 am Tue. March 16 at the Val Verda 4th Ward, 2633 S. 50 W, Bountiful. Friends may also visit Mon.
