NORTH OGDEN – Lorin Ross Fietkau, 95, died Friday, May 7, 2010 at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.
He was born October 17, 1914 in Boneta, Utah, a son of Carl Elmer and Elmira Mower Fietkau. He lived in Boneta until he enrolled at Brigham Young University, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree. He then earned his Master’s Degree from Utah State University.
On August 23, 1939, Ross married Janet Marian Barker in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Ross was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served as a Sunday School Superintendent, Dance Director, Stake Librarian and 2nd Counselor in the Sunday School.
He served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II.
Ross served in education for 43 years. He was a teacher for four years and a principal for 39 years for the Weber County School District.
Ross was a delegate to the State Convention. He was a member of the Hilltoppers and Quarter Promenade Square Dance Clubs. He enjoyed fishing, square dancing, gardening, traveling, reading, and sports including basketball and football.
Surviving are two daughters, Elaine (David-deceased) Butt, North Ogden; Myrna Fietkau, Orem; 6 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one sister, Ruby Fitzwater.
Ross was preceded in death by seven siblings.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the North Ogden 11th Ward Chapel, 2250 North Fruitland Dr., with Bishop Kent Linsley officiating.
Friends may call at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the Ward Chapel from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded.
