Louis Mathias Mattson, Jr

Louis Mathias Mattson Jr., 83, passed away peacefully May 31, 2013 surrounded by his loving family in Ogden, Utah. Lou was born September 27, 1929 in Logan Utah, the eldest son of Louis M. Sr. and Hazel Spenst Mattson. He was raised in Logan, graduated from Logan High School in 1947, and briefly attended Utah State University before enlisting in the National Guard. He was initially stationed in Persido, San Francisco, CA where he attended culinary school before being stationed in Seoul Korea as a Mess Steward for the United States Army from April 1950 until January 1952. He later jokingly referred to himself as "Chief Cook and Bottle Washer". He received the Korean Service Medal and was honorably discharged in March 1952.

Upon returning to the States Lou married his sweetheart, Laura LaVay Stuart, in the Logan LDS Temple on January 24, 1952. They have two children, Laura Lou Mattson Williams and Stuart Kirk Mattson.

Lou worked for the O.U.R. and D. Railroad, Boeing, and Thiokol Corporation; the latter of which he retired from in July 1992. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing golf with his younger brother Paul, and traveling a€" a pastime in which he made many friends.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and held many Priesthood and other church callings which he fulfilled faithfully.

Lou is survived by his wife of 61 years, Laura LaVay; daughter, Laura Lou Mattson Williams; son, Stuart Kirk (Suzi) Mattson; brother, Paul (Marci) Mattson; grandchildren, Holly (Ben) Ahern, Christopher Williams, and Matthew Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents and baby brother, Reed Dale Mattson.

Lou was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, and most importantly... a great friend. We love you, miss you, and look forward to seeing you again!

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South, Roy. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
