Lowell M. Stephens
KAYSVILLE a" Lowell passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 27, 2008.
He was the first child born to Mervin L. and Erma A. Perkins Stephens on February 19, 1929 at the old homestead on Mutton Hollow Road in Kaysville, Utah.
As a boy he had Dyptheria and was quarantined at his grandfather''s home. He was promised a horse of his own if he would get better. His first horse was "Old Tarzen" and since that day he owned 1 to 15 horses at any given time up to the day he had his first stroke on July 7, 2000.
He married Luain A. Morgan in Elko, Nevada on July 3, 1948. When his children were young for their birthdays he would take them on a horse ride.
He was past member of the Davis County Posse and rode in many parades. He enjoyed going on the cattle drives, backpacking on horses in the Uintah, horse racing, cutter and chariot racing with his own teams.
Lowell had a great life sharing stories, laughter, love and tears with those he knew.
Surviving are his wife Luain A. Stephens, two sons, Larry L. (LeAnn) Stephens, Rigby, ID; Allen R. (Shari) Stephens, Kaysville; daughter, Cindy S. (Craig) Thurgood, Roy; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Bonnie (Claude) Dahl, West Point; Linda (Craig) Whitesides, Kaysville; three brothers, Jack (Pat) Stephens, Kaysville; Layne (Carol) Stephens, Kaysville; and VarDel (Terri) Stephens, Morgan.
Preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Karen Ann Stephens (Day Mortensen).
The family would like to give a special thanks to Vista Care Hospice staff, Marie, Phil and Chris. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
