"Together Again" Loyd W. Kenley
UINTAH - Loyd W. Kenley, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at his home with his grandchildren, Chuck (Janet) Thorsted of Uintah, Utah, by his side. Loyd spent three loving years caring for his wife of nearly 66 years before his own courageous battle with cancer began in February 2010.
Loyd was born in Ogden, Utah on September 12, 1924 to William and Alice Jane East. Loyd was schooled in Warren until he was drafted in 1943 to serve in the Pacific Theater of World War II.
He married Betty Chambers on October 9, 1943, while on a three-day leave. After serving in the war, he returned to USA soil on January 5, 1946, and spent the next several decades raising three beautiful children and working 55 years building homes and small businesses in the Ogden, Utah and Elko, Nevada areas.
Loyd loved gardening, family gatherings, a nice cold beer after a hard day''s work, bragging about how big he could grow potatoes, and in his younger years, cherished fishing and boating with his family. Loyd was especially proud of his service in the United States Army, in the chemical warfare MOS.
Loyd is survived by his sons, Chris (Kristin) Kenley of Tuscarora, Nevada; Layne (Mary Ann) of Elko, Nevada; five grandchildren, Chuck (Janet) Thorsted, Dawn Michelle (James) Troop, Cara Kenley, Kimberly Kenley, Lindsay Kenley, an adopted granddaughter Jennifer (Andy) Niemiec, along with five great-grandchildren, Kodie, Kade, Jonathon, Morgan and Joseph, and two great-great-grandchildren MacKenzie and Connar. Loyd is also survived by many life-long treasured friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty, his parents, two brothers, Wilmer and Thomas, a daughter, Joan Thorsted and a granddaughter, Sherrie Wright.
Loyd wished and the family wishes to express gratitude to the many friends who called and visited during his difficult times. Many thanks to Life Path Hospice, and a final gratitude to the incomparable staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, especially his beloved friends and doctors in Clinic A.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 6 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., with Bishop Jeff VanderDoes officiating.
Family will meet friends at the mortuary on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where Military Honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
