Lucie M. Swanson

KAYSVILLE – Lucie M. Brot Swanson, 85, died peacefully Sunday, April 15, 2007, of natural causes. She was born October 20, 1921 in Buschwiller France, the only child of Jean Felix Pierre Brot and Celine Willer. She was educated in the French school system and graduated from Teacher’s College in Sidi-bel-Abbes (Oran) Algeria, earning B.A., B.S. and M.A. degrees. She met Carl Swanson, an officer in the American Army, in Oran during Christmas time 1945. They married on August 31, 1946 in Cheyenne, WY and lived most of their married life in Ogden, UT. She became a U.S. citizen in 1949. Lucie’s beloved husband died June 1969.
Lucie taught French at Weber State University from 1966 to 1989 and missed only one day. She was a member of Elim Lutheran Church, American Association of Teachers of French, and numerous other academic groups. She was a voracious reader, a superb companion to lucky dogs, an accomplished seamstress and knitter, and loved the arts and classical music.
Survived by her son Dr. Gerald C. Swanson and his wife Sheila, Fairfield, Iowa; grandchildren Hillary Lucille Swanson, Channing Margaret Swanson and Andrew Fitzgerald Swanson; son Alan J. Swanson and his wife Helga, Kaysville. Preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Per her wishes a private family graveside service was held; interment in Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch in Ogden. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the staff of South Davis Community Hospital and South Davis Hospice for the loving care provided to Lucie.
