Luciel W Slater

Luciel “Lucy” Wright Slater Luciel “Lucy” Wright Slater was born May 15, 1924 in Ogden, Utah. Lucy was the daughter of Adam Glen and Lillian Banford Wright. She was preceded in death by brother, Glen. Lucy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, an active member of the LDS church, and a dedicated leader for community service, including service to the Ronald McDonald House in Palo Alto. She attended Washington Elementary School, Ogden High School, Weber College and the University of Utah. Lucy married Otto Slater on October 4, 1948 in Ogden, Utah. They moved to China Lake, California, where Otto was employed as an engineer at the US Naval Ordinance Test Station, and where Lucy gave birth to two daughters, Claudia and Kristine. Nine years later, the family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where Otto had accepted an engineering position with the Lockheed Missiles & Space Company in Sunnyvale, California Soon after, Lucy gave birth to a son, Robert. With a growing family, Otto and Lucy built their dream home in Los Altos Hills, and planted gardens and fruit trees. Lucy and Otto shared generously the bounty of their harvests with neighbors and friends. In 1992, Lucy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. She fought the disease to her last moment, but peacefully succumbed on Thursday, May 17, 2012 shortly before midnight. Lucy is survived by her husband Otto; her three children, Claudia Vinton, Kristine Sturgill and Robert Slater; twelve grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the LDS Church, 720 Nancy Dr. Ogden, Utah. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
