Lucille Hazel Howard

Lucille (Sally) H. Howard, 96, of Clearfield died May 16, 2012. Sally was born September 21, 1915 on a farm near Griswold, Iowa to William and Rhoda Lary. She married Leon T. Howard September 15, 1940. She taught school in a rural one-room schoolhouse in Iowa. As a Navy wife she became an expert at packing as they were moved often. They lived in New Orleans, LA, Norfolk, VA, San Diego and Long Beach, CA, Honolulu, HI, and Cheyenne, WY before settling in Clearfield, UT. Sally worked at many jobs including at Hill AFB. She served as a volunteer at the North Davis Hospital for many years. Sally and Leon traveled extensively following their retirement. They enjoyed gardening and playing with their grandchildren. She was a member of Clearfield Community Church, and Eastern Star Beth Arabah Chapter 24. Preceded in death by her loving husband Leon and all of her siblings: Lloyd Lary, Wilma Elliott, Theresa Wright, Doris Clark, and Laurence Lary. Survived by daughters: Jean D. Varner and Linda (Richard) Stevens; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 8, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Clearfield Community Church, 200 S. 500 E., with the Reverend John C. Parsley officiating. The family will meet friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Shriners Hospital or Clearfield Community Church.
