In Loving Memory of Lucinda Jane McGraw
September 27, 2011 – June 21, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Lucinda Jane McGraw, affectionately known as "Lucy." Lucy passed away at Primary Children's Hospital on June 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 27, 2011, in Layton, Utah, Lucy was born with a rare chromosome abnormality known as Xq22-q28, a condition so unique that it defied medical professionals' expectations. From the beginning, Lucy showed a remarkable spirit and fierce determination, fighting against all odds with grace and courage. Lucy constantly "defied gravity," insomuch that despite her condition, she didn't need to be hospitalized with a sickness for eight years.
Lucy was the cherished daughter of Lucas and Melinda McGraw and the beloved sister of Dawson (14), Hewson (9), and Wesley (4). Her family was devoted to her care, and her mother obtained a nursing degree to accommodate her needs better. Lucy's parents were unwavering advocates, always in her corner, ensuring she enjoyed her life to the fullest.
Though non-verbal, Lucy had an extraordinary ability to communicate through her presence. She possessed a calming aura that comforted anyone who sat with her. Her beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes could lift any spirit and brighten the darkest days.
Lucy had a profound love for loud fireworks and music, and she would laugh with delight at the lively antics of her brothers. She even thought it was humorous when people cried. In her younger years, her adorable giggle would bring us all to tears, including her. Her sounds were so cute she often sounded like a kitten. Although she couldn't move much, she loved to feel things with her fingers. She found her way of enjoying the simplest of things.
The McGraw family extends their deepest gratitude to the medical professionals and caregivers who helped Lucy throughout the years, especially in these past few months at Primary Children's Hospital. They also thank Mascot Miracles, Give Kids the World, Make-a-Wish, and Angel Hands for their unwavering support and love. Additionally, the family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to our wonderful neighbors and friends who adorned their homes with pink and purple lights, Lucy's favorite colors, to show their support these past few months.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 27, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lindquist Mortuary, 1867 N Fairfield Rd, Layton, UT 84041. The Funeral service will occur on Friday, June 28, at 11:00 AM at Oak Forest Chapel at 2250 E 2200 N, Layton, UT 84040. The interment is at Kaysville Cemetery. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live-streamed on the Lindquist Mortuary website.
In celebration of Lucy's vibrant spirit, the family kindly requests that attendees wear anything pink or purple, her favorite colors, to the services. These colors brought her joy and reflected the light and love she brought into our lives.
Lucy's life, though short, was filled with immense love and joy. She was a true fighter whose strength and beauty touched the hearts of many. She will forever be remembered for the light she brought into the world and the inspiring spirit that captivated everyone around her. We love you, Lucy; thank you for being ours to love.
For those who have inquired, the family welcomes donations through Venmo or their GoFundMe page, which is set up in Lucy's honor. Flowers may also be sent to Lindquist Mortuary. Your generosity and support are greatly appreciated during this difficult time.
