Lucy Eileen Dayley Orton, 88, passed peacefully into God''s hands on Saturday, August 6, 2011, after a short illness. She was surrounded by her family.
She was born December 13, 1922 to Ralph Clifford Dayley and Beulah Bourquin Dayley. She was raised in the Sandhills of western Nebraska, where she learned to love the land and growing things.
World War II began while she was in High School. After graduation, she and her younger sister went to Denver to attend nursing school. There she converted to the LDS Church, and met Marcus Orton, a young medic. They wrote each other while he was away at war, and when he returned, they went to Utah and were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to North Ogden, where she spent the rest of her life raising and caring for her family.
Her great passions were her children, her grandchildren, the neighborhood children and her garden. She would travel anytime, anyplace, enjoying the company she was with, and the learning opportunities each trip offered.
She sincerely believed in the value of people, celebrating their diversity while accepting everyone for their own strengths.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Phillip Marcus (Mary Ann Beattie) Orton, Evanston, WY; Ralph Lee (Mozelle Prestridge) Orton, Brigham City; Eric Neal (Jodie Lynn Bourne) Orton, Kaysville; daughters, Sharla Kay Orton, North Ogden; Denise Orton (W. Douglas) Clifford, Kaysville; 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ivan, SD and James, NB; Sisters, Luella, CO; Frieda, SC; Leola, CO.
Her husband, Marcus John Orton, son, Lyle John Orton, daughter-in-law, Pauline Muller-Orton, son-in-law, Daniel Yurth, and great-grandchild, Tavyn Neal Denny, all preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 11th at 11 a.m. at the North Ogden 7th Ward Chapel, 205 E. Elberta Drive, North Ogden.
Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
The family strongly suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Lucy Orton Memorial Scholarship for Students Over 50, at Weber State University, instead of flowers, because of Lucy''s great love for learning.
