Luinna Jensen

Luinna A. Jensen passed away on the afternoon of April 4, 2014 at Davis Hospital in Layton, Utah, due to complications associated with pneumonia. She was born July 18, 1935 in Preston, Idaho, to Howard Jensen and Ethel Luinna Auger and was the oldest of seven children.

When Luinna was a young girl her father worked for the Conservation Corps, employment that took the family from Preston to Glendale, Idaho, Rock Creek, Idaho (near Twin Falls), Tremonton, Utah, and then back to Preston where she attended Jefferson Middle School and Preston High School.

After graduating from high school, she attended Henniger Business College for one year and worked at a brokerage firm in Salt Lake City. She met the love of her life, Milton Jensen, in 1953 while she was working at A&H Rootbeer Parlor in Preston. Luinna admitted she nearly dropped a stack of plates when she first saw him. They were married on June 9, 1956, and were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they settled in Kaysville, Utah, where they raised six children.

Luinna was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and faithfully served in the Relief Society, Primary, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts of America. She also served as ward librarian for more than 14 years. She could often be found quilting, sewing, or knitting baby blankets for family and charity efforts. She was a wonderful cook and many will miss enjoying her award-winning homemade pies, jams and canned vegetables. She was very detail-oriented and proficient with numbers. She worked for many years assisting professional accountants prepare corporate tax returns.

She loved gardening, flowers, camping and riding motorcycles. She also loved visiting many beautiful parts of the country with Milton in their Airstream trailer. Family reunions at Bear Lake were a much-anticipated highlight every August.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was proud of her children and grandchildren, and loved having them near. She especially enjoyed listening to them play musical instruments and sing. She seldom missed a concert or play in which they participated, and would talk about them for days. During the last years of her life she found a passion for studying the scriptures and the lives of the prophets. She would often share the things she was learning with her family, blessing their lives with her new understanding.

She was a humble and talented woman who enjoyed helping others. She never stopped teaching those around her through her words and example. She is dearly loved and will be missed by her family, neighbors and all who knew her.

She is survived by her children; Kelly (David) Salmond, Dean (Cindy) Jensen, Marilyn (Sanford) Saline, Kent (Sarah) Jensen, Brian (Julie) Jensen, Becky (Roger) Griffin, 30 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, brothers Owen Auger, Alan Auger, Jim Auger, and sisters Loraine Wright, Mary Bair, Joan Auger and foster daughter Lucia Tauglechee.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Milton D Jensen.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Kaysville Rock Chapel, 25 S. 200 E., Kaysville, Utah. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main St., and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the chapel.
