Don Luis, 85, passed peacefully on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on January 1, 1936 in Huaniqueo de Morales, Michoacan, the son of Jesus Gil and Salud Herrera.
He was married to his beloved wife, Lidia Sanguino, for 68 years; they married in 1953 in his hometown Huaniqueo. Luis was a good husband and provider for his family. He loved his wife very much and always wanted to see her happy.
Luis was most proud of his life’s work as a bus driver for public transportation in his hometown. Because he served as a driver, he was very well known and liked by many. His family often joked with the phrase, “bajan en la esquina Don Luis!” He was of Catholic faith and Our Lady of Guadalupe held a special place in his religious life.
He devoted his time and energy to reading, soccer, and rodeos. In addition, he enjoyed cooking and tailoring for his family. As a devoted father and grandfather, he looked forward to the yearly family cruise vacation and the yearly visits back home. In his free time, you could find him attentive to a soccer game or taking a stroll in his neighborhood.
Luis is survived by his wife, Lidia Sanguino; children, Jesus Gil (Alma Beatriz), Luis Gil (Araceli) and Gerardo Gil (Nelida); daughters, Elia Ochoa (Salvador), Leticia Guerrero (Jose Ruben), Alma Cabrera (Romaldo), and Nora Diaz (Edgar); 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Graciela Ceja. His daughter, Rosaura Gil, and his parents, Salud Herrera and Jesus Gil, were preceded in death.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 514 24th, Ogden. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Interment of Ashes, Evergreen Cemetery, 100 Monroe Blvd, Ogden at 2:00 p.m. Friday.

Don Luis, de 85 años, falleció en paz el miércoles, 3 de noviembre de 2021, rodeado de sus seres queridos. Nació el 1 de enero de 1936 en Huaniqueo de Morales, Michoacán, hijo de Jesús Gil y Salud Herrera.
Estuvo casado con su amada esposa, Lidia Sanguino, durante 68 años; se casaron en 1953 en su pueblo natal Huaniqueo. Luis fue un buen esposo y proveedor de su familia. Quería mucho a su querida esposa y siempre quiso verla feliz.
Luis estaba muy orgulloso del trabajo de su vida como conductor de autobús para el transporte público en su pueblo. Debido a su servicio como conductor, era muy conocido y querido por muchos. Su familia solía bromear con la frase "¡bajan en la esquina Don Luis!" Era de fe católica y Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe ocupaba un lugar especial en su vida religiosa.
Dedicó su tiempo y energía a la lectura, el fútbol y los jaripeo. Además, disfrutaba cocinar para su familia y la sastrería. Como padre y abuelo devoto, esperaba con ansias las vacaciones familiares en crucero y las visitas anuales a casa. En su tiempo libre, lo podías encontrar atento a un partido de fútbol o paseando por su comunidad.
A Luis le sobreviven su esposa, Lidia Sanguino; los niños, Jesús Gil (Alma Beatriz), Luis Gil (Araceli) y Gerardo Gil (Nelida); hijas, Elia Ochoa (Salvador), Leticia Guerrero (Jose Ruben), Alma Cabrera (Romaldo) y Nora Diaz (Edgar); 19 nietos, 10 bisnietos y 5 tataranietos; y hermana, Graciela Ceja. Su hija, Rosaura Gil, y sus padres, Salud Herrera y Jesús Gil, fueron precedidos en la muerte.
La misa de cuerpo presente se llevará a cabo el jueves 11 de noviembre de 2021 a las 11 a.m. en la Iglesia Católica St. Joseph, 514 24th, Ogden. Amistades pueden acompañar a la familia el miércoles de 6 a 8 p.m. con Rosario a las 7 p.m. en Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Entierro de cenizas, Evergreen Cemetery, 100 Monroe Blvd, Ogden a las 2:00 p.m. Viernes.
