Luise Annette Howe

Luise Annette Howe passed away May 15, 2017 after illness.  She was born July 29, 1939 in Liberal, Seward County, Kansas to Louis Theodore and Mildred Fae Moberly.  Luise graduated in 1957 from Decatur Community High School in Oberlin, Kansas.  In May 1960, she married Glenn Howe in Oberlin, Kansas and attained her professional nursing degree September 1960 in Topeka, Kansas at the Stormont-Vale School of Nursing.  The family lived in Oberlin, Kansas; Midwest City, Oklahoma; Lajes, (Lajes AFB), Terceira Island, Azores, Portugal.  The family settled in Layton in 1965.

Luise was a pediatric nurse and worked at St. Benedict’s and McKay-Dee hospitals in Ogden.  She also worked at the Hill Air Force Base hospital.

Luise was a member of two chapters of the Order of Eastern Star (OES); Chapter 106, Oberlin, Kansas and Beth Arabah Chapter 24, in Clearfield.  She was Beth Arabah Past Worthy Matron.  OES Grand Chapter of Kansas granted her a 50-year membership service award in 2009.  She held the position of Grand Ruth OES Utah Grand Chapter.  She was also a member of Daughters of the Nile, Lybia Temple No. 32 in Salt Lake City.  Luise held many, many offices and positions in Masonic, fraternal and charitable organizations including the Order of DeMolay and Jobs Daughters.  In 1987, Luise received special accommodation from the Utah State DeMolay Association for her faithful and dedicated service as Director of Parents Clubs and Sweethearts.  Then in 1992, Luise was elected to receive an Honorary Membership into the Utah State Chapter Order of DeMolay.

Luise and Glenn enjoyed three decades of retirement together.  Enjoying Utah Jazz basketball games and traveling to be with children, grandchildren and relatives.  Luise was predeceased in 2016 by granddaughter Amanda Karsten Howe.

Luise is survived by her husband of 57 years, Glenn Howe of Layton, brother Stanley A. Moberly (Linda) of Tenakee Springs, Alaska, children; Curtis (Laura) Howe, Ted (Sue) Howe and Sally (Kraig) Howe, grandchildren; Bailey (Dane) Moller, Samuel Howe, Margaret Howe, and great grandson Grayson Dane Moller.  Luise bids goodbye to all her dear, dear friends especially those of the Masonic and Eastern Star communities.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family one hour prior to services.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

"After memorial services, Beth Arabah #24 OES will host a dinner for Luise's family and close friends at the Gateway Lodge #29 F. & A.M. Masonic Temple, 452 East 700 South, Clearfield, Utah."

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Luise's name are encouraged to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 1275 Fairfax Road, SLC, UT 84103.
