Luke Daniel Call
Luke Daniel Call passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his parents, on October 7, 2014. Luke was born on May 19, 2012 to Danny and Katie Call. He is their fourth child and second son. From his very first months, he earned the name Mr. Smiles. The nickname proved to be perfect for him, and he smiled through every situation he met in his short life.
Luke was diagnosed with a rare form of infantile leukemia just before he turned six months old. He spent a good portion of his life at Primary Children’s Hospital (302 days), where he underwent chemotherapy, radiation, and 3 bone marrow transplants. But it wasn’t the cancer that defined Luke. It was his infectious smile, his laughter and flirting with the nurses, and the light in his eyes. He quickly became a favorite of the doctors and nurses that cared for him.
Luke’s favorite place to be was at home with his brother and sisters; they could always get him to smile. Luke loved his Mom, but it was no question that he was a Daddy’s boy…through and through. He loved his time with his Papa and Grandma Call in the hospital. He loved to dance to music and wear his BYU Game Day shirts. Pet therapy and music therapy days at the hospital were among his favorites.
Luke is survived by parents Danny and Katie Call and siblings Claire, Sophie, and Johnny. Grandparents Roger and Lori Call, Candace Vigil, and Richard and Ruth Ann Vigil. Additionally by numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his aunt Rachel Vigil.
