NORTH OGDEN a€" Lydia "Maurine" Jackson Stowers, 88, peacefully passed away from this life on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at her home in North Ogden.

She was born September 13, 1919 in Ogden, Utah to Clyde W. and Lydia Kuhlmann Jackson. She was raised in North Ogden.

She met the love of her life, J. Ray Stowers, whom she married on April 4, 1941 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived in Franklin, Louisiana, Grenada, Mississippi, Slaterville, Ogden, South Ogden and North Ogden.

She graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber College and Utah State Agricultural College receiving her Associate Degree and teaching certificate in 1941. After her children were in school, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education at Utah State University. She taught Kindergarten for many years in both Weber County and Ogden City School Districts. She was widely recognized as an outstanding teacher receiving awards from both KSL and the Standard Examiner for her excellence in teaching. She was an active participant, serving on several PTA councils. In 2003 she was selected to the Days of 47 Royalty for the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

Growing up on a fruit farm in North Ogden, in her young life, she served as secretary of the North Ogden Fruit Exchange for several years. She embraced with all her heart, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in the Primary, Sunday School, Young Womens and Relief Society as a teacher or leader. She and Ray found great joy working in the extraction program as well as temple ordinance workers. With certainty, the greatest love and happiness in her life was derived from her family. She created a home defined as heaven on earth for those she loved. She marveled over the beauty of nature, good music, children and loved to garden. Roses were her favorite.

She was an active member of Litra Chimes Literary Club, Lomond Literary Club, Alpha Delta Kappa and a member of The Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Camp Deseret.

She is survived by her husband, Ray, of 67 years of North Ogden; three sons and two daughters, Shirley (Stanton) Taylor, South Ogden; Lynnette (Kevin) Corbett, Arthur R. (Pegge) Stowers, Robert (Susanne) Stowers, all of North Ogden; Steven L. (Carol) Stowers, Nibley, UT; and her sister Shirley McCormick, North Ogden. Her beautiful posterity continues with 25 grandchildren and 37great-grandchilren.

Maurine was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Clyde LeRoy Jackson and Arthur Dale Jackson, a sister LaVin Roberts, a grandson, Matthew Corbett, a granddaughter, Sara Ann Stowers and a great-grandson, Taylor Haws.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 28 at 11 a.m. at the North Ogden Stake Center, 626 East 2600 North, North Ogden.

Friends may call at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday at the Stake Center from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
