Lyndell “Lyn” Harvey Mayfield

April 23, 1939 ~ June 30, 2018

Lyndell “Lyn” Harvey Mayfield passed away Saturday June 30, 2018 at the age of 79. Lyn was born in Vernon County, Missouri on April 23, 1939 to Harvey Floyd and Iva Lavesta (Greer) Mayfield. He married Marilyn Ann Pickett on June 8, 1963 and together they raised six children.

Lyn is survived by his wife, Marilyn; three sons, Mark (Lois) Cummings, Jeff (Nancy) Mayfield, Christian (Ann) Mayfield; two daughters, Patricia Mayfield, Cindy Fox and one sister, Janet (Larry) Sechrist. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother Deb Mayfield; sister Jean Keithly and daughter Nanette Marie Turner.

Lyn served honorably in the United States Air Force from 21 November 1956 to 1 June 1959. Although he didn’t brag about his experience in the military, he did like to tell the story of “running with the bulls,” which was an opportunity afforded to him while he was stationed at the Zaragoza Air Base, Zaragoza, Spain.

Lyn originally came to Utah to work in construction with his uncle Joe Greer but later changed careers and he worked and retired in 1993 from Hill Air Force Base as Captain of the Department of Defense Police Force.

Lyn enjoyed life after retirement by being an avid reader, sports enthusiast, expert yard sale shopper, and taking trips back to Missouri to spend time with his siblings, relatives and friends. He enjoyed working in his yard and growing his annual garden. He was quick to kick you out of his garden if you tried to snatch one of his prized tomatoes, but no one ever left his house without their hands full from his harvest. Besides gardening, his truest joy on earth was spending time with his family. If you are a friend to Lyn and Marilyn, you are part of his family. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday July 6, 2018 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary 3333 W 5600 S Roy, Utah. The family will meet with friends Friday from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
