LYNDEN WILSTEAD
SYRACUSE – Lyn Wilstead was born July 3, 1943 in Price, Utah to Samuel Dodd Wilstead and Mary Allred Wilstead. He passed away April 9, 2010 at the age of 66 after a three year struggle with Lukemia.
On December 22, 1977, Lyn married Reta Ann Fotheringham and were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple on October 13, 1993.
He leaves: His wife, Reta, Syracuse; Children – Troy Wilstead (Teri), Collinsville, OK; Jennie Fay (Malcolm), San Jose, CA and Valeria Lovelace (Scott), TX. Mother, Mary Wilstead, Ferron, UT. Grandchildren – Vickie Lemma, N. Highlands, CA; Danielle Lemma, San Jose, CA; and Jade Wilstead, Collinsville, OK. Great-grandchild, Isabella, N. Highlands, CA. Brothers and Sisters – Dodd N. Wilstead (Connie), Castledale, UT; Etova Snow, Castledale, UT, Serita Snow (Sharp), Castledale, UT; Russell Wilstead (Denise), Spring Glen, UT; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother-in-law, John Snow.
Lyn joined the United States Air Force in May 1961. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, and during his military career he served on bases in England, Hawaii, Texas, Utah, Idaho and California. Additionally, he served in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., working on the Star Wars program.
Lyn was a defender of country and freedom who risked his life as a soldier, then later gave his country years of service as a recruiter.
Lyn was a devoted and committed servant of God He had many callings in his church and he and Reta served a mission to Deseret Industries in Ogden. Together, they found great joy in the opportunity to help others.
Lyn was a man of humility, faith, persistence and love. He loved God, his sweetheart, Reta, his children and all family, his country, the beauties of the earth, and neighbors and friends. He fought his battle with dignity, and in the end he accepted his lot. He faced his final hours with the same way he lived his life – humbly, faithfully, fearlessly trusting in God.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Syracuse Zions Crossing Ward, 1112 S. 1525 West. Family will greet friends Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd, and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
