Lynn Morris John, 86 ½ years old died of natural causes July 23, 2016, Layton, Utah.
Lynn was raised in Johnstown (Portage), Utah, and later Woodruff, Idaho. He attended school in a two-room schoolhouse in Woodruff. As a farm boy, he learned the value and necessity of hard work. He was well read and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, horseshoes, ping-pong, pool, basketball, and all things BYU, especially sports.
He enjoyed his children, really enjoyed his grandchildren and really, really enjoyed the “Greats.” He was a loyal friend to all who knew him and he never met a stranger.
He served an LDS mission to the California Mission, serving among the Papago Native Americans. He graduated from BYU with a BS in business and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force, where he was a pilot for 28 years, a Vietnam War vet, and from which he retired as a Lt. Colonel. He traded his wings for a CDL and to what he sometimes referred as a high stress job driving a bus for Davis School District for 25 years.
He married his sweetheart, Betty Mae Dunkley of American Fork in the Salt Lake Temple on August19, 1953. They have six children, 25 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Lynn is survived by his wife, Betty Mae; son Keith (Coleen); and daughters Camille Holt (Donald), Katherine Airmet (Wayne), Tamera Wilhelm (Steve), Rosemarie Carter (Brian).
Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Asael (Ace) John and Vereen Morris; two brothers, Mardell and Dennis; one sister, Meda Sharp; daughter Margo Marley (David); sons-in-law, David Marley and Michael Dippold; and three brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Valley View Stake Center, 1589 East Gentile Street, Layton. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Portage, Utah Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.
