Lynn B. Judkins
Lynn B. Judkins peacefully passed away in his home on Jan. 9, 2013 at the age of 92. He was born March 1, 1920 to Sarah Blanch and Parley Barrett Judkins in Ogden. His childhood was spent in West Warren attending Weber County schools. He also attended Murray High School and USU. He married MaryBelle Simmons Nov. 26, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple. They shared 60 wonderful years in this life until her passing in 2000, raising their family in West Layton. He enjoyed life at home in the house that he and Mother built as newlyweds.
Three years after being married, Lynn left his sweetheart to serve his country in the Army Air Corps. He was a B-17 bomber pilot during World War II flying with the 8th Air Force in the 452 Bomb Group out of Attleborough, England. He flew 30 missions including 2 "Chow Hound" missions during which they dropped food in Holland for relief of the starving Dutch people, and 2 were flights where he carried released French prisoners of war from Linze Austria to Paris France. Following the war, he chose employment at Hill Air Force Base where he worked as an inspector for 35 years retiring in 1976.
Lynn served in many positions in the church and was proud to be one of the longest surviving original members of the West Layton Ward/Layton 2nd Ward. Even with boundary changes and new wards (Evans Meadows) he continued to lead the music in priesthood meetings until the week he died. Lynn served with his wife as ordinance workers in the Ogden LDS Temple and fulfilled a mission at the visitor''s center in Mesa, Arizona. They then served 14 years as locators in the Membership and Record Keeping Department of the LDS Church. They loved to travel, especially to visit their children in Alaska, Hawaii, Texas and every place in between.
As he grew older, he loved walking around the property, feeding carrots to the horses, puttering around the garage and visits from friends, family and his helpers. We wish to extend a tremendous thank you to his dear care-givers who helped to make his later years so enjoyable: Kathy Vuki, Cody Case, Scotty Bunderson, Andy Meacham, Jenny Schow, and Camilla Hyde. They became friends as well as irreplaceable helpers walking with him to feed the horses and other property excursions.
Lynn lost his beloved companion and two sons all within a few months of each other 2000-2002. His heart ached with so many losses, but the many people who have had the opportunity to surround him since then can attest to the optimism and sense of humor he exhibited through declining health and the graciousness with which he learned to accept declining independence. He loved and appreciated the constant care and contact of his family and his care-givers. Dad was a proud American. He had a rich heritage of service to his country and he is one of the heroes of his era.
His children are Val (deceased) and Kerry Judkins of St. George; Clint and Tamara Judkins of Tremonton, MaeJae and Rick Storrs of Layton, Billy (deceased) and Terri Sue Judkins of Layton. Lynn has 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his sisters Alta Bailey, American Fork and Joyce Parkin, St. George.
