Lynn Woodward "Woody" Monson

Lynn Woodward “Woody” Monson PETALUMA, Calif. – Lynn “Woody” Monson, 61, died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at his home in Petaluma, California following a heart attack. He was born August 11, 1947 in Ogden, to Rheal Hyrum and Bessie Woodward Monson. He attended the Ogden City Schools and graduated with the Ben Lomond Class of 1965. Lynn enlisted with the U. S. Army Reserves in September of 1967 and served for six years, completing his service in 1973. Lynn liked his long hair and after completing his basic training, he began to grow his hair out again. In order to pass inspection at camp each year, he would pin his hair up and put on a wig that looked like a short haircut and put his hat on top of it. He was successful in this masquerade for the duration of his service. He moved to Navato, California in 1972. He married Ruth Wilmot Casey in 1973 and helped her raise her two children, Culley Casey and Melanie Casey. He enjoyed taking Melanie to her ballet lessons and watch her perform in the Nutcracker Ballet. Lynn and Ruth later divorced but continued to remain good friends. Lynn later moved to Petaluma, California where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in October of 2003 after 28 years of service. From the time Lynn was young, he had an insatiable love for cars and could tell you the make and model of any car that went by. This love continued throughout his life. He loved to attend car shows and study car magazines to keep up to date on all the vintage cars. Autumn was his favorite season of the year and he would return home in the fall to enjoy rides in the mountains and witness the vibrant beauty of the colors. He never ceased to be amazed at the miracle of the change of colors. While he was home, he enjoyed Halloween and would delight in putting on weird masks to answer the door for the trick or treaters. He would then take his mask off and laugh as he handed out treats. He enjoyed making each holiday special for his family members by sending fun, holiday treasurers to each family. Surviving are his mother, Bessie Monson, Ogden; and two sisters, Eileen (Lynn) Baxter, Morgan; Bonnie (Ken) Frew, Ogden; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Rheal Monson, and two brothers, Clair Monson and Ronnie Monson. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends and family may pay their respects at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Saturday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Lynn, we are grateful that you are finally free of your pain and are reunited with your Dad and brothers. We will miss your happy smile and your clever surprises. We love you. Send condolences to the family at: www.lindquistmortuary.com
