Lynn S. Phillips

On Friday, October 1, 2010, in the peace of the early morning, Lynn and his sweetheart, Hermoine were reunited after ten years apart. At 96 years, a stroke silenced the most hardworking man we have ever known. He spent his entire life in the service of others.

Lynn was born May 16, 1914 in Clearfield, Utah to Manning "Mannie" Charles and Elizabeth Wilcox Phillips. He grew up on ranches and mining camps, graduating from Elko County High School, Elko NV in 1932, where he served as student body President.

On August 16, 1937, he married the beautiful Hermoine Barker from Randolph, Utah. They honeymooned in San Francisco where they witnessed the dedication of the Golden Gate Bridge. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1942. Lynn treasured his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served faithfully in all his callings. He will be deeply missed in the Canyon Crest Ward, especially during service projects.

Lynn worked for the U.S. Post Office Railway Mail Service from 1936 to 1967, traveling throughout Utah, Nevada and California. With his photographic memory he was able to learn and recite all the zip codes in that large area even into his 90''s. He survived the worst train accident in Utah history on New Year''s Eve 1944. In 1972, he built the East Ridge Apartments on Harrison Blvd. on the former site of the Phillips family homestead. He earned a number of real estate licenses and designations, becoming a broker in 1975 and founding Phillips Realty. At the time of his death, Lynn was the oldest active real estate broker in the area. Lynn lived through the Great Depression, which instilled life- long values of hard work, perseverance and frugality. Lynn''s humor, service and family values will be remembered by all.

He is survived by three children, Phil Barker (Linda) Phillips, Ogden, UT; Celia Phillips (Tom) Rodriguez, Austin, TX; and Stanley Charles (Diane) Phillips, Omak,WA. He has 14 grandchildren, JR Lynn Phillips, Cheryl (Kenny) Yearsley, Ann (Randy) Koger, Mike (Michelle) Phillips, Mindy (Wayne) Beckstead, Roger Phillips, Sean Rodriguez, Benjamin (Jule) Flint, Josh (Sarah) Phillips, Miriam (Sterling) Eriksson, Naomi (Trevor) Martineau, Caleb (Maria) Phillips, Kathryn (Odilon) Chavez-Luna, Elizabeth Phillips. He has 31 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Lynn was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Hermoine, Jennilyn (infant daughter), parents, and two sisters, Violet (Eber) Steninger, and Genevive and a great-grandson, Joshua Smith. His family wishes to thank his friend and doctor, Dr. Biddulph, as well as Dr. Mansfield and the McKay-Dee Hospital staff for kind and excellent care.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 4th at 11 a.m. at the Canyon Crest Ward, 6350 South Combe Road.

The family will meet friends for a visitation on Sunday 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to a charity of your choice.

Well done thy good and faithful servant.
