"Together For Eternity"
M. Noreen Johnson Davis Criddle
PLAIN CITY - A Child of God, Daughter, Sister, Wife, Beloved Mother, Aunt, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Noreen Criddle, passed from this life on Thursday April 16, 2009 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, to be reunited with her eternal partner Lacey A. Criddle, after a courageous battle with lymphoma.
Noreen was born in Pocatello, Idaho on January 1, 1935 to Axel Delmar Johnson and Lela Armstrong Johnson and lived most of her younger years in Idaho. Noreen married Robert L. Davis to which two children were born, Robert L. Davis Jr. and Le' Dell Marie Davis. They later divorced.
Noreen moved to Utah and worked for Smedley Plumbing and Heating as a general secretary. She then moved to Mesa, Arizona and worked as an accountant in the CPA firm of Henry & Horn. It was in Mesa that Noreen met her eternal companion, Lacey Albert Criddle. She then moved back to Syracuse, Utah and married Lacey on May 6, 1966, and together two sons were born, Clint Lacey Criddle and Brent Albert Criddle. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden LDS Temple.
Mom took on a part time job as an accountant for D & D Concrete, owned and operated by her brother Duane Johnson, which over time turned into a full time job as accountant and office manager for over 30 years.
For many years Mom and Lacey spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona and summers in their Syracuse home until Lacey passed away in October of 2000.
Mom had a variety of talents and hobbies including gardening, quilting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, cooking, tax preparation for family and friends, and traveling to visit all the relatives and friends in Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, California, New York and Utah. Mom was an avid gardener with a special green thumb. Her garden was always "showcase" quality and she spent hours nurturing, growing and then canning the
bountiful crops. Raspberry jams and homemade cheesecake were among her favorite dishes for family gatherings for her grandchildren and family to enjoy. If you visited Mom in the summer she was determined to send you home with fresh vegetables, apples, grapes, berries or melons.
A few years ago mom joined the Ogden Singles Square Dancing Association and enjoyed many hours of meeting new friends and acquaintances and participating in square dancing events. She volunteered to write the monthly newsletter for the Northern Utah Square Dance Association. The family wants to thank Mom's square dancing partner, Ralph Hart, for his support and time he spent playing cards, driving her to appointments and taking her to square dancing events.
Mom was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and Syracuse Lady Lions. Over the years Mom held various positions in the Church as a teacher in Primary, Young Women’s, Relief Society, girls camp and roadshow productions. She had a very creative mind and creative solutions and was willing to devote time and dedication to church, family, friends, and those in need.
Noreen is survived by her mother, Lela Johnson, Layton; children Robert Davis, Plain City; Le' Dell (Jay) Gresham, Plain City; Clint (Michelle) Criddle, Morgan; Brent (Tammy) Criddle, Oasis, Idaho; and Step-Daughters Joyce Albiston and Barbara Steel both from Syracuse; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Marva (David) Rampton, Syracuse; brother Duane (Annette) Johnson, Mountain Green; many cousins, nieces, nephews, special in-laws and very special friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lacey, her father, and brother Steve Johnson.
The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and aides at McKay-Dee Hospital, the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the University of Utah Hospital. Mother was a special person and all the doctors and nurses enjoyed her courage and determination to win her battle over cancer.
