M. Robert “Bob” Harris, 92, passed away on August 31, 2013 due to incidents of age. He was born on July 27, 1921 in Harrisville, Utah to Martin Henderson Harris and Viola Katherine Eames. Bob grew up in Harrisville and graduated from Weber High School in 1940 where he excelled in football, baseball, and basketball. After graduation he played basketball and baseball for 30 years on M-Men and the Industrial League teams. He married Faye Williams on September 27, 1941 and they had four children, Patsy Iannone, Dixie (Harold) Finch, Roberta Smith, and Rick Harris. They later divorced. Bob was one of the “Greatest Generation” serving during World War II aboard the USS Colbert, a Troop Transport ship. He was a member of the Riders of the Wasatch Riding Club for 20 years where he enjoyed riding his horse Rondo and winning many competitions. Bob was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, and was a cowboy through and through. Bob worked at Defense Depot Ogden in the Motor Pool for 36 years where he received the superior work and driver of the year awards. He represented DDO in Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo events. He loved going to Wangsgard’s snack bar every morning at 7 a.m. for coffee, breakfast, and conversation with friends. Bob is survived by his children, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, a sister, Shirley Layton, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Douglas Harris; and a great grandson, Robert Wayne Bottom. Dad wished to be cremated and have his ashes scattered in his beloved mountains where he used to hunt. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Family will meet with friends on Saturday from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
