M. Paul Southwick M.D., esteemed physician, died on October 2, 2012.

He was born on July 21, 1922 in Salt Lake City to Mary Hansen and George Merlin Southwick. He was the oldest of six children.

Paul married Beverly Brockbank on September 7, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They enjoyed raising their nine children in a home filled with love, laughter, hard work and knowledge of eternal principles. Beverly died in February 2003. He later married his close friend Blanche Wilson on November 13, 2004 and is survived by this beloved companion of eight years.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities including Bishop, High Councilor and Medical Service Missionary.

Paul joined the Ogden Clinic in 1951, after serving as Captain in the US Army and completing his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Utah. He received the Laureate Award from the American College of Physicians. He was president of the Ogden Clinic for three terms, Chief of Department Medicine at Dee Hospital for three years and Associate Professor at the University of Utah Medical School. He was on the McKay-Dee Foundation Board and the Weber County Board of Health, which he also chaired. He served as president and long time member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers and received the Weber State University Distinguished Service Award. Paul was also presented the 2003 Utah Doctor of the Year Award by Gov. Mike Leavitt. He retired after 43 years of dedicated service from the Ogden Clinic having not missed a single day of work due to illness.

He enjoyed spending time with his family at his Bear Lake Condo where he loved boating, swimming (including cold dips in April and November) and biking. Paul had a tremendous love of cars as manifest by his ownership in 47 new vehicles over his lifetime. He had a passion for music and unique spicy foods. Paul had a wonderful smile and an infectious laugh. When not spending his free time with family, he was watching sports on TV, attending U of U and Weber State football and basketball games. He was an avid and vocal fan, cheering his teams on to victory. He spent more than 40 years attending the state high school basketball tournaments which were always a thrill for his children that got to tag along with their dad. Paul loved to read and education was a lifelong pursuit. He was truly enthusiastic about life.

Paul is survived by his wife Blanche; seven children, Rod (Tam), Craig (Jan), Selinda (Steve) Powell, David (Cindi), Sue (Rob) Alley, Jon (Annette), Lane (Lori); 35 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren; his brother Dick (Sherrie) and sister Margaret Schwartz. Paul was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly; his daughter Shauna, his son Christopher (Jill) his brother Grant (Betty) and sisters Mary Mitchell (Clark) and Laura Jean, and one grandson, Shane.

A special thanks to hospice care givers, Julie Lee and Dr. John Wood. Appreciation also extended to the caregivers at Pine View Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 8th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Friends may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 5:30 - 8pm and Monday 9:30 a€" 10:30am. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where Military Honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
