The Last Dance 1917 ~ 2011

After 93 years of living life to its fullest, Mabel Argyle Purcell Kelson passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 20, 2011.

Mabel was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was born December 5, 1917, in Bountiful, Utah the daughter of Jesse and Vida Argyle. She graduated from Davis High School, class of 1936. She was reared and educated in Bountiful. She had lived in Salt Lake, Woods Cross and Layton.

Mabel loved ballroom dancing, gardening, bowling, traveling the world, shopping and having lunch with her daughters. Mabel was described as a person full of life, who could bowl into the evening and then go ballroom dancing until all hours of the night. At age 91 she was still dancing three nights a week. She had a green thumb and loved to start plants from tiny graphs that turned into beautiful gardens. She was also a member of the American Business Women Association.

Growing up during the depression, Mabel knew the value of hard work and passed those values onto her children. She worked on her parents'' farm, at the Sweet Candy Company, and then worked in the grocery store business as a meat wrapper.

Mabel married Richard "Dick" Purcell of Willard, Ohio on October 19, 1940. He preceded her in death September 27, 1971. On June 12, 1993, Mabel married Keith Kelson of Salt Lake City. He preceded her in death on May 22, 2005.

She is survived by four children: Richard "Rich" Purcell (Kaylene) of Layton, UT; Jeanine Parrish (Brent) of Layton, UT; Shawna Taylor (Thomas) of Ontario, CA; and Michele McClain (Michael) of Okinawa, Japan; as well as 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ellen Freestone of West Bountiful, UT.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.
