Maceo “Sonny” Keeling Sr.

Maceo Keeling made a gentle transition from life, as we know it, on November 13, 2014 in his home in Layton, Utah. He was born to Percell and Sallie Mae Keeling in Texarkana, Texas on June 14, 1936 in the year of our Lord. He was 78 years old when he passed. Maceo married Doretha Lewis in Los Angeles, California in 1957 and he shared 57 years of his life, and his love with her.
Maceo served his country with honor in the United States Army as an artilleryman in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1962 .
Maceo and Doretha lived in California and were blessed with 7 children before they moved to Layton, Utah in 1983.
Maceo’s work career began with the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. He later joined Western Airlines as a fleet service specialist and was promoted several times before retiring from Delta Airlines with a successful career spanning nearly three decades.
In his retirement Maceo enjoyed gardening and college football.
He was anointed with a gift of telling jokes and telling stories. He often shared them with friends and neighbors. He seemed never to have met a stranger!
His compelling and engaging personality drew people from many walks of life. He was generous with his time and counsel to young people, businessmen, and many renowned professionals around the country.
Maceo leaves to celebrate his life, his wife Doretha Keeling, 7 children, 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, and the joyous prospect of more in the New Year! He also leaves his brother Percell Keeling, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and fond acquaintances.
There was nothing more important or dear to Maceo than his family. He loved his family. He shared his love with each and every one of his immediate and extended family members.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 1 p.m. at 901 W. Victoria Ave, Compton, California, 90220.
The Keeling Family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and all the professional service providers who cared, supported and prayed for Maceo “Sonny” Keeling.
We also thank you for your prayer, love and support during this time of transition.
Maceo Keeling’s legacy is and will be remembered as one of unparalleled Character, Excellence
and Honor. May God Bless his eternal soul.
