Major Wiley H. Miller, Jr.
OGDEN – Major Wiley Harris Miller, Jr., loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at McKay-Dee Hospital.
He was born October 27, 1915 in Ogden, a son of Wiley Sr. and Lillie Harris Miller.
On March 27, 1942, Wiley married Laura Daisy Varney in the St. George LDS Temple. They were married for 51 years before Laura preceded him in death on November 14, 1993.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in various callings including High Councilor and Bishop. He also served a three year mission to Tahiti.
Wiley served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army in the Medical Corps. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Major after 24 years of service.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was the Postmaster.
Wiley loved woodworking and was gifted in carpentry work. He enjoyed cars and loved to travel.
Surviving are one son and three daughters, Roger (Raelene) Miller, South Weber; Jacquelyn (Neal) Beecher, Orem; Renee (Stephen Wesley) Knight, West Bountiful; Connie Rae Geurts, North Ogden; 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is one brother, Oliver Miller.
He was preceded in death by his wife, grandson, Spencer, and sisters, Emma, Lillie and Shirley.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Lewis 3rd Ward Chapel, 435 No. Jackson Avenue Ogden.
Friends may call at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at the Ward Chapel from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
