Makayla Adamson

April 28, 1995 — September 23, 2019

Makayla Lynne Adamson

Makayla came into our lives like a secret note, made on paper by pen, folded into a paper airplane.

Soaring, wild and free, sometimes unpredictable but always true.

Our beautiful daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, aunt, and most importantly friend passed away suddenly on September 23, 2019 after a succumbing to a pulmonary embolism. She was 24 years old.

Makayla was born on April 28th, 1995 to Randy and Tammy Adamson in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from Layton High School in 2013 and received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Weber State University in 2017.

Makayla was an extremely talented poet and wordsmith. Her work was published in Utah's Best Emerging Poets and Metaphor Undergraduate Literary Journal, where she also served on the editorial staff and helped curate a collection of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and art. In tandem with her publishing accolades, she also presented a poetry collection at the renowned National Undergraduate Literature Conference. She graced the workshops and classrooms of Weber State University's Creative Writing program with her poetic prowess and quick wit, and she was adored by her fellow writers and professors.

Makayla had so many amazing qualities, but more than anything, she loved. She loved her family, her friends, her dogs, her books, coffee, the Northwest, baking, naps, a good ole can of wine (paired with cheez-its and M&M’s), pasta, maps, having conversations on the kitchen floor, a perfectly crafted crème brûlée, terrible boy bands, giving extremely thoughtful gifts, smirking, stories about space, her nephew (lil bud), giving people “finger guns” to deflect from awkward conversations, distrusting squirrels, strong, inspirational women, never letting anyone else choose the music in the car, a nice, rainy day, and so, so much more.

Makayla constantly amazed us with her thoughtfulness and generosity. She was the one you could always count on for support, validation, and unconditional love. If you ever mentioned you were having a bad day she would immediately reply with “dump him/her” or “you’re a goddess/king” or “wine and whine night this weekend?” She was the best friend you could always count on and never had to ask for. She always went out of her way to lift others up, even when she was feeling down. She was the champion of “little gestures” that may have seemed small to some, but meant the world to us.

Understanding, accepting, and loving is how she wanted all of us to live. In the stories she would write, the poems she would craft, it was always the same message: To be kind, to be thoughtful, to be thankful, and most importantly to LOVE.

Makayla, we miss you more than words can describe. Fortunately for us, you were the writer in the family and you already said it best in one of your poems.

“And I guess that I’m trying to say one thing

but I keep getting lost…

… I just really miss you.

And I want to make paper airplanes with you.”

Love you forever, baby girl. We’ll make paper airplanes together in heaven.

She is survived by her parents Randy and Tammy (Brasier) Adamson of Layton, Utah; her brother Nicholas, his wife Megan Adamson of Layton, Utah; her Grandmother Betty Brasier of Bountiful, Utah; her Grandfather Roger Brasier of Bountiful, Utah; her Grandfather Michael, his wife Betty Adamson of North Salt Lake, Utah, and multiple uncles, aunts, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her Grandmother Valene Schaffer and her cousin Mikey Adamson.

We will be celebrating Makayla’s life on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 2:00 PM at her parent’s home. 1232 W 725 S Layton, Utah 84041.
