Malcolm “Mal” Reiss, 85, our beloved father, grandpa, great-grandpa, great-great-grandpa and friend, peacefully passed away at his home, Saturday, March 21, 2009. Mal was born January 17, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of George Benard and Sophie Straus Reiss. He graduated from New York public school. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the US Army and was the recipient of the World War II Victory medal, Good Conduct medal, American Campaign medal and EAME Campaign medal. As a young man, he worked the doors for the Big Bands. He played the clarinet and loved music. On April 25, 1961, Mal married the love of his life, Adriana Van Batenburg, in Ogden, Utah. He worked at Hill Air Force Base for 35 years where he enjoyed every day in training devices. Mal was a member of the American Legion for 50 years. He always had a joke to tell. Dad, grandpa and friend, until we meet again, we love you more than words can say. Mal was preceded in death by his loving wife, Adriana, parents, sister, Selma and a brother-in-law, Abraham. He is survived by three children, Carl Ernest (Betty) Butters, of North Ogden; Adriana (Jim) Gonnuscio, of North Salt Lake; Adrian Bruce (Claudine) Butters, of Syracuse; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and many friends who were like family to him. The family would like to express their love and appreciation to the extraordinary people who made it possible for Mal to enjoy his life and his home. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 27th at 2:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Aultorest Memorial Park. E-mail condolences to the family at www.lindquistmortuary.com
