Mara Katje Pergola

September 10, 1956 ~ June 7, 2015

Mara Katje Pergola, 58, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on September 10, 1956 in Moline, Illinois to Maurice and Myrna Swanson Tolman. She graduated from Mayo High School in Rochester MN. Mara served in the United States Army in the U.S. and overseas from 1974 to 1980. She continued her service as a Federal Employee in Germany and retired from Tooele Army Depot with 30 years of service in 2012.

Mara was a peacemaker and a patriot. She was dedicated supporter of the American military and their families. During her career she worked as a Human Resources Management Advisor, Equal Employment Opportunity Officer, Mediator, Training Officer and more. Mara always went above and beyond what was expected of her. She was regarded and respected by those at every level in the organization for her contributions to the mission but mostly about who she was as a person.

Mara enjoyed her kids, grandkids, reading, logic and crosswords puzzles. Most of all she loved to travel, especially those “spontaneous” road trips with Gerry to anywhere. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, crafting and teaching Gerry how to operate the TV remote and his Tracfone.

To many, Mara was a friend, a mentor and spiritual guide and sponsor. Mara spoke and lived the language of the heart. She touched so many lives and we always seemed to find a positive message in her words and actions. Her focus was always on other people, whether it was volunteering for hospice or just quietly helping family or a friend. Mara recently celebrated 23 years of sobriety and was so grateful to have been given such a wonderful life. Those of us who knew Mara were blessed to have had her in our lives.

Mara is survived by her husband, Gerald Pergola; sons, Joseph Pittman; stepson, Christopher Pergola; daughters, Katika Pittman Bradley; stepdaughters, Sherri Pergola and Michelle Fosque; grandchildren, Kalia and Joseph Lewis, Dominique Rios and Soleil Fosque; sister, Nena Tolman; brother, Guy Tolman of Minnesota; and the Swanson, Giesinger, Pergola, and Pittman families.

She was preceded in death by her father, Maurice Tolman; mother, Myrna Tolman-Geisinger; stepfather, Charles Giesinger; sister, Gretchen Tolman; and grandchildren, Kingston Fosque and Boston Bradley.

A Memorial service will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the mortuary.
