Maralee Carson
SUNSET - Maralee Butz Carson, 61, of Sunset, Utah, went to her heavenly home on July 17, 2010 while at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, following a brief illness. Maralee was born on Sept. 7, 1948, in Ravenna, Ohio. She grew up in Kent, Ohio, and in 1966 she graduated from Kent State High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society.
Maralee went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Valparaiso University, in Valparaiso, IN, in 1970, and then moved to Chicago, where she lived for six years. She then lived in nearby Matteson, IL, for 25 years, and earned her nursing degree in 1982 from Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, IL.
In 2001, Maralee moved to Sunset to be closer to her grandchildren. She was a registered nurse who loved her patients. She worked with troubled youths at Cottonwood Treatment Center in South Salt Lake, Utah. She was a member of the Illinois Nurse Association, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the South Cook County Chapter of the American Heart Association and the Emergency Nurse Association.
Maralee loved her family. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Layton, Utah, and enjoyed reading, gardening, genealogy and hand needlework.
She is survived by two sons, Ben (Pam) Carson, of Las Vegas, NV; and Matthew Carson, of Matteson. She’s also survived by two grandsons, Tyler and Samuel Carson, of Las Vegas, NV; brother Mike (Jane) Butz, of Ravenna, OH; sister Vickie (Matt) Smith, of Texarkana, AR.; stepmother Joanne Butz, of Kent, OH; stepsisters Terri Price and Jodi Schwab of Ravenna, OH; stepbrother Danny Schwab of Wittmann, AZ.; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Maralee was preceded in death by her parents, James and Patty Butz, and stepbrother Dale Schwab.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 74 N. Fort Lane, Layton, Utah, 84041-3827.
Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna, Ohio at a later date.
