SOUTH OGDEN a€" Marcella Bessie Hoggan Shurtliff, 98, died Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Manor Care Nursing Center.

She was born November 7, 1911 in Ontario, Oregon, a daughter of James A. and Mary Ellen Whitaker Hoggan.

On May 4, 1931, Bessie married Wendell H. Shurtliff in Farmington. Wendell preceded her in death on October 2, 1995.

She was born in Oregon and raised in Pocatello, Idaho. She lived in the Ogden area all of her married life where she worked for four years for Defense Depot Ogden.

Bessie was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She enjoyed all crafts and sewing.

Surviving are her children, Nancy Kerbs, Temecula, CA; Sally (Wally) Specht, Angwin, CA; Timothy (Nancy) Shurtliff, Ogden; Grant Shurtliff, Salt Lake City; Max (Pamela) Shurtliff, Roy; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, her brother, Jim Hoggan, son-in-law, John Kerbs, and grandson, John Kerbs.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 22nd Street and Taylor Avenue, with Pastor Wait officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Deamude Adventist Christian School Gymnasium Fund, 1765 West 2100 South, West Haven, UT 84404.
