Marcus Gordon Griffin

CLEARFIELD - Marcus Gordon Griffin passed away Friday, June 22, 2007, at the age of 77 after a heroic two and a half year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Quogue, Long Island, New York, Sept. 2, 1929, to Florence Isabelle and Henry Edward Griffin. He was raised by his Aunt Gay after his father passed away when Marc was three. He graduated from Eastport High School at the age of 16. As a boy he learned independence and very hard work. He enlisted in the US Navy and had deep feelings of patriotism and love for his country. Marc moved to Ogden where he met and married his sweetheart, Joanne Hadley, on October 17, 1953. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 17, 1958. He loved to serve others in his various callings. In each, he exemplified the charge to magnify one''s callings, including the six-year Church Employment Office Mission he served with Joanne. He was dearly loved in his Ward because of the quiet acts of kindness and love he shared with so many. Marc was highly dedicated to family history work--both his own and others--submitting and performing temple ordinances for many hundreds of people. He served twice as a Ward Family History consultant and was a volunteer at the Ogden Family History Center at the time of his passing. Marc was an electrician by trade, working his way to General Superintendent over the service contracts of large power plants. He was respected by his employees, coworkers and superiors. Marc had a passion for reading, both Church and fiction. He loved duck hunting, boating, water skiing, gardening, and spending time with his family. He was loved for his sense of humor, and his affable, approachable, and down to earth nature. Marc possessed integrity, and wanted nothing more from his family than for them to have honor and integrity.

Marc is survived by his wife, Joanne, Clearfield; a brother, Philip Griffin, Layton; his children, Cathy (Ronnie) Dumas, Twin Falls, ID, Craig Griffin, Fallbrook, CA, Chad (Tina) Griffin, Clinton; 11 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Marc is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, and newborn twin sons Brent and Kent.

The family would like to thank all those at the Huntsman Cancer Institute who served Dad with such tenderness, respect and love. A special thank you to Dr. Sean Mulvihill and Dr. John Ward.
