Margaret Ashcraft McGuire Together Again

LAYTON a€" Margaret Ashcraft McGuire, age 89, passed away Friday, July 27, 2007. She was born on May 5, 1918 to Jacob Osborn and Cora May Wilkinson Ashcraft in St. Anthony, Idaho. She married James Albert McGuire on January 8, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away on October 10, 2000.

Raised in Idaho, Mickey attended the University of Idaho in Moscow and then the Texas College of Mines in El Paso, Texas. It was there that she met Jim. While Jim was away during World War II, Mickey lived with her parents in Idaho. She then began the process of raising her three children. As a devoted mother she was self-sacrificing and subordinated her needs to those of her family. She and Jim made sure that the gospel was a central part of their family''s life. Mickey served in numerous church positions, including the Young Women''s organization and Relief Society and was ward organist throughout most of her adult life. When Jim was sent on a tour of duty without his family, Mickey began her career in civil service as a secretary at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska. She excelled in that area until her retirement.

She and Jim loved to travel and spent many of their later years while still in good health touring Europe and other locations. Always a social person, Mickey enjoyed being with friends and playing bridge on a regular basis.

Ten years ago a stroke took much from Mickey including her ability to speak. She endured well her challenges with great dignity and without complaint. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will always remember the sweetness of her spirit. Visits by the small children always brought an immediate smile to her face and raised her spirits.

She is survived by her three children: Susan (Kent) Wilkinson, James (Shirley) McGuire II, and William (Diana) McGuire; 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers: Jacob Osborn "Obbie" Ashcraft and S. Ray Ashcraft; and one sister, Helen Ashcraft.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton.
